My Date with Charlie!
November was a complete blur! I was travelling 3 weeks out of the month - and preparing for the Excalibur Show on December 1st in Los Angeles. Although it presented more of challenge, I managed to stay on track. My workout schedule suffered a little, but it was all worth it.
I managed to spend a weekend visiting my mom in Portland! As usual, it was a gorgeous weekend. Mom got us tickets to see "Cabaret" at an amazing new Theatre in Portland. If you haven't seen Cabaret - it is quite racy! And this presentation was truly wonderful. It was a great weekend. I also managed to spend some time with my best friend from high school. Keep reading about the spectacular day.... Look at that face!! He is just the sweetest thing! Besides the fact that Charlie had to be the most amazing horse I have ever ridden. This spectacular horse was hand raised and trained by my dear friend Quinn Caldwell. Her mom (Jaye) and I have been best friends since high school.
Lucky me, here I was on a quick trip to Portland to visit my mom and Jaye took time out of her busy weekend schedule to arrange an afternoon ride through the forest in Washington State (Battleground). I could not have asked for a more fabulous day. Cold, crisp and sparkling. Here we are at the start of the ride on the edge of a winery! I felt like I was in the "Hobbit" deep in the thick moss-covered forest. So spectacular, all I could do was inhale the oxygen filled air. Jaye and Quinn were so amused! This is the beautiful country that they live in. I couldn't get enough of it.
We came through the deep forest to this beautiful meadow - oh so beautiful. After this, we opened up the horses for a full-fledged run back to the horse trailer. I had no idea how fast Charlie was - he's a barrel racer for goodness sake. And Jaye's husband Chris (and he is a big dude) usually rides Charlie. Charlie must have thought he had a fly on his back. Somehow I managed to stay on, but it was a close call. All I can say is it is a good thing I have strong legs because it took every ounce of strength I had to not fall off this streak of lightening! I LOVED IT!
